Jailer 2 Hindi Box Office: ₹42 Cr Cume, Under ₹45 Cr Finish

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 added Rs 3.75 crore in its third weekend to reach Rs 42 crore in Hindi, and is now set to finish under Rs 45 crore as Ramayana opens.

Jailer 2 Hindi hits ₹42 cr, eyes under ₹45 cr finish

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has turned into one of the quiet success stories of the Hindi box office season. The Tamil action drama added Rs 3.75 crore in its third weekend, pushing its Hindi cume to Rs 42 crore nett.

Sunday’s share was Rs 1.50 crore, the biggest single day of the weekend. With Ramayana opening this Thursday, the film is now looking at a lifetime finish under Rs 45 crore in Hindi.

A hit without the big multiplex chains

What makes the number notable is that Jailer 2 delivered a big result in Hindi without releasing in the national chains PVR Inox and Cinepolis. Those circuits usually account for a large share of Hindi collections, particularly in the North belt.

Trade estimates indicate that a full-fledged North release with solid promotions could have taken the film to at least Rs 100 crore nett in Hindi — well over double its current total.

Where it stands among Kollywood dubs

The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel has already become the second highest-grossing Kollywood film in Hindi, a sign of Rajinikanth’s pull even when a dubbed release has limited screen access.

The cast includes S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan and Yogi Babu. The story picks up three months after the first instalment, with Muthuvel Pandian infiltrating an idol trade network run by the Kalpak family.

What the hold means for the finish

  • Third weekend: Rs 3.75 crore
  • Sunday alone: Rs 1.50 crore
  • Running cume: Rs 42 crore nett
  • Projected final: Under Rs 45 crore nett

For fans who track box office as closely as the films, this is a lesson in distribution. A South Indian dub can become a Hindi hit on star power and word of mouth; missing the national chains simply caps how large that hit can be.

Why it matters

Jailer 2 is a useful case study in what “hit” means under different release conditions. It is not a Rs 100 crore Hindi performer, but it did not have the screens to be one. The fact that it still became the second highest-grossing Kollywood film in Hindi is the real story.

As Ramayana enters the market, Jailer 2’s Hindi run will wind down short of the 45-crore mark. It exits as a film that outperformed its release, not one that underdelivered.
