Amit Sadh: My Pratap cop is the Mike Tyson of the police force
Amit Sadh opens up about his larger-than-life cop in Pratap, why the film is not Breathe 2.0, and why box office success now matters more than ever.

Amit Sadh is returning to the cop genre, but he wants Bollywood fans to know that Pratap is not another round of his Breathe character. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, he described the title role as a larger-than-life figure and summed up the energy with one comparison.
“He’s the Mike Tyson of the police force!” Amit Sadh said.
A different cop, built for the big screen
The actor said director Sachin Saraf opened their first meeting by praising his work in Breathe but making it clear that Pratap would be different. Amit’s answer: that was exactly why he signed on. The character has separate complexities, and because this is a story written for cinema, he approached it as a fresh challenge rather than a reprise.
That freshness shows in the look. He wanted Pratap to appear strong and tagda, not chiselled, and said he enjoys building characters through physicality. While the moustache may feel new to some viewers, Amit pointed out that he has sported one before in Kai Po Che and Super 30.
The film also stars Esha Deol, Seema Biswas, Milind Gunaji and Tigmanshu Dhulia. Its trailer, which has been received warmly, presents Pratap as a content-led drama thriller.
Box office, followers and a career crossroads
Beyond the character, Amit was candid about commercial pressure. He confirmed that he follows the collections of his films regularly. If you work in an office, he reasoned, you check whether your salary has arrived; a film is no different.
He described Pratap as both a double-edged sword and a beautiful moment in his career. He said he is at a crossroads and hopes the audience feels curious enough about him — his past, his present and this performance — to buy a ticket.
What Amit says is shaping this moment
- The trailer has been treated as the film’s visiting card, and the response has satisfied him.
- Pratap is designed as a cinema story, not simply an extension of his OTT cop work.
- Instagram follower counts may influence some casting conversations, but box office remains the real scoreboard for him.
- If the film does not sell, he believes an actor can slide back down the food chain.
As for the social-media metric, Amit put it plainly: “Toh yeh toh box office hai yaar!” If even Instagram followers are being used to cast actors, he suggested, real ticket sales carry even more weight. People who cast by follower count have their own approach, but producers have to make money for things to move forward.
Why this matters for Bollywood fans
The conversation points to a wider shift in the industry. OTT popularity has made actors more visible, but Pratap will test whether that visibility converts into theatrical footfall. For the audience, that could mean more mid-budget, story-first films getting a real shot in cinemas — if viewers actually show up.
What to watch for next
With the trailer out and the ensemble in place, the focus shifts to whether Pratap can hold attention beyond the first glimpse. Amit Sadh is treating the release as a public reintroduction, built on physical preparation and a character he clearly wants audiences to see as a heavyweight rather than a repeat.
