Priyanka Chopra’s DIY Mehendi Adds Nick and Malti’s Initials

Priyanka Chopra marked Karwa Chauth with DIY mehendi that features Nick Jonas and daughter Malti Marie's initials, plus the chashni trick.

Priyanka's DIY Mehendi Adds Nick and Malti's Initials

Priyanka Chopra marked Karwa Chauth with the smallest kind of canvas: her own palm. The actor shared close-up pictures of a mehendi design she says she applied herself, and the detail fans zoomed into was the pair of initials folded into the henna — husband Nick Jonas and daughter Malti Marie.

Her caption, translated in the source, read in part: “DIY… Piya ke naam ki” and wished everyone celebrating. The phrase means “in the name of my husband”, but the design itself told a slightly newer story: this year, the ritual also carried their daughter.

The chashni step, decoded

In another slide, Priyanka was photographed brushing chashni, a sugar syrup, over the drying mehendi. “Will the chashni work? IYKYK,” she wrote. It is a familiar Karwa Chauth trick for many Indian women — the syrup is used to help the henna develop a darker, richer colour. The “if you know, you know” shorthand made it feel like a note between friends rather than a polished celebrity update.

Why the initials matter

This is not the first time the Jonas-Chopra household has turned Karwa Chauth into a talking point. On The Kapil Sharma Show in 2025, Priyanka recalled a moon-hunt that ended with Nick taking her above the clouds in a plane so she could break her fast. She described waiting at a stadium show with 60,000–70,000 people around, watching till 11 pm, while the moon stayed hidden behind clouds and rain.

That story was pure romance. This year’s mehendi is about family. Adding Malti to the design is a small gesture, but it shows how the ritual is evolving as their family grows — and gives fans an easy idea to copy at home.

A few small things to borrow from her post:

  • Work initials, not just patterns, into festive mehendi for a personal touch.
  • Photograph the middle ritual — the chashni, the drying henna — not only the final result.
  • Let a tradition travel: festivals can stay meaningful even when you are far from home.

Back to the big screen

While the Karwa Chauth post is about home and family, Priyanka’s professional calendar is on a much bigger canvas. She is set to make her comeback to Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film has been reported at a budget of ₹1,000 crore and is scheduled for an April 2027 theatrical release.

For now, a palm-sized post has done its job — proof that a festival, a few initials and a little chashni can hold attention as strongly as a blockbuster announcement.
