Vidya Malavade’s Fraud-Call Rule and Passport Over Aadhaar

Vidya Malavade shares her rule for ending suspicious calls and why a hotel stay made her switch from Aadhaar to passport ID.

Vidya Malavade's Fraud-Call Rule and Passport Over Aadhaar

Vidya Malavade spends her new series inside a digital arrest nightmare. Off screen, she uses a far simpler line of defence: the moment a caller starts asking for a password or PIN, the call is over.

The disconnect rule

Speaking about her own run-ins with fraud calls, the Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story actor said she has received plenty of scam calls but has mostly identified them quickly. “The moment I sense that something isn’t right, I disconnect the call,” she told Bollywood Hungama.

Her logic is deliberately low-tech. A longer conversation gives a fraudster more room to manipulate someone, and more audio to record. Vidya said she had heard that keeping someone on the phone for too long can allow a voice to be cloned. So any request for a password, PIN or similar detail becomes an instant red flag.

A hotel check-in changed her ID habit

Vidya also described a recent hotel stay that made her rethink the documents she shares. She was about to hand over her Aadhaar card at the front desk when a co-star asked why she was giving up a document that carries so much personal information. She had not registered the risk until that moment. She handed over her passport instead.

It is a small correction with a large lesson: even someone careful can expose personal data out of habit, not carelessness.

The series behind the message

The story connects directly with her latest role. In Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story, Vidya plays Priya Sharma, a working professional whose life changes after she is trapped in a digital arrest scam. She said the fear was not that Priya is reckless, but that she could be any of us.

“She is educated, she is careful, she does everything right, and she still loses everything in a single afternoon,” Vidya said. Fraud prevention stories often focus on the very online or the very vulnerable. Vidya’s warning is broader: a working professional with a normal routine can be pulled into a scam in a single afternoon, and the first weak point is usually a moment of compliance rather than a dramatic hack.

The microdrama follows Priya as she finds a larger network of fake identities, fear and intimidation. It also stars Pratik Sehajpal, Vineet Raina, Sandeep Aurora, Priyanshi Tripathi, Puja Jha, Ayushi Tyagi, Shital Tejwani, Ashok K Jha and Yogesh Pawar, and streams exclusively on the Story TV app.

What to borrow from her checklist

  • End the call as soon as anyone asks for a password, PIN or OTP.
  • Treat long conversations with unknown callers as a voice-cloning risk.
  • Use a passport instead of Aadhaar for hotel ID when you can.

For fans, this is the rare celebrity interview where the takeaway can be used the same day. The series may be a thriller, but Vidya’s rule is closer to a safety habit.
