Rashmika Mandanna tells critics she and Vijay chose US

Rashmika Mandanna addressed the backlash over her relationship with Vijay Deverakonda, calling the interview reaction an angry mob and defending their choice.

Rashmika to critics: We chose US, not your approval

Rashmika Mandanna has responded to the online wave over her relationship with Vijay Deverakonda, after their recent interview set social media alight. In an Instagram note, she didn’t just defend the relationship; she drew a line between opinion and mob behaviour.

From opinions to an angry mob

Rashmika said she usually avoids responding because everyone is entitled to their view, and she sometimes enjoys reading different perspectives. But the reaction to this interview felt different. She described it less as people sharing opinions and more as “an angry mob looking for someone to vent at.” Somewhere, she wrote, the actual point got lost, and people who believe in love deserved better.

What she said about Vijay and marriage

The actor also clarified the part of the interview that the internet had turned into a talking point. She said the conversation was never about the number of times something was discussed or about an entire year. Vijay, she explained, wanted them to take time to understand each other and figure out if they were ready to move forward. Her reply: “And we did. We chose each other.”

Rashmika described marriage as less about a grand proposal, going down on one knee or exchanging rings, and more about building a life together. She named Vijay her lifelong companion and friend and said she would choose to marry him again and again. She also said she was “OBSESSED with my man” and didn’t see why that should be a problem.

Why the note matters

This is more than a relationship defence. Rashmika used the post to redraw boundaries around a celebrity relationship that fans often treat as public property.

  • She defended their right to make their own choices as capable adults.
  • She said Vijay stood by her through illness, anxiety and hard phases no one else saw.
  • She called out misleading edits and unverified narratives online.

One of the sharpest lines came when she separated feminism from online bullying. She wrote that people could criticise her all they wanted, but talking about her family without knowing them was not feminism, it was “bullying dressed up as feminism.” She also addressed her Kannadiga followers directly, acknowledging the bond they have kept with her over a decade.

What she asks next

Rashmika asked followers not to worry about her or Vijay, and pointed to the joy she has felt since getting married, as well as in her films and performances. She closed by wishing everyone their own version of love, happiness and fulfilment, whether or not it looks like hers.
