Nayanthara joins Rajinikanth in Dharman after 5 years

Makers of Dharman have confirmed Nayanthara as a key cast member, reuniting her with Rajinikanth for a sixth film after five years.

Nayanthara boards Dharman opposite Rajinikanth

The makers of Dharman have ended the speculation: Nayanthara is officially part of the Rajinikanth-led action entertainer. The team shared the news with the kind of announcement that doubles as a promise.

“THE AURA IS DOUBLE. Welcoming the one and only Nayanthara to DHARMAN,” the team wrote.

A screen partnership returns

Dharman becomes the sixth time Rajinikanth and Nayanthara have appeared together on the big screen. The pair first shared screen in Chandramukhi. Nayanthara later made a guest appearance in Sivaji: The Boss and an extended cameo in Kuselan. In 2020, the two reunited for Darbar before starring together in Annaatthe. Five years after that Siva-directed release, the duo is set to return.

The reunion is the film’s first major casting flex. It gives Dharman a story that can travel beyond the usual first-look and teaser moments: two huge stars, a proven chemistry, and a long gap that makes the pairing feel like an event.

What we know about the film

Rajinikanth plays a stylish doctor in Dharman. Ashwath Marimuthu directs, while Kamal Haasan co-produces under RKFI. The cast also includes Simran Bagga, Yogi Babu, and Raashii Khanna in key roles.

  • Music: Anirudh Ravichander is scoring the music and background score.
  • Cinematography: Niketh Bommireddy is handling the camera.
  • Editing: Pradeep E. Ragav is on the cut.
  • Action: The Anbariv duo is choreographing the stunts.

Dharman is expected to reach cinemas in Summer 2027, with shooting likely to wrap by November 2026. Reports have suggested that Ram Pothineni might play the main antagonist and that Sreeleela could also join, but the makers have not confirmed either update.

Why it matters for fans

Rajinikanth and Nayanthara are both capable of opening a film on name recognition alone. Put them together after five years and Dharman instantly becomes one of the titles to track for 2027. Since Kamal Haasan is behind the project and Anirudh Ravichander is on the score, the film has a strong marquee beyond the cast.

The “AURA IS DOUBLE” line is also a marketing beat in itself. Short, confident, and easy to cut into reels, it gives fans a phrase to repeat before a single frame of the film is released. For a project that reportedly still has months of shoot left, that early buzz matters.

Both actors also arrive with fresh momentum. Rajinikanth was recently seen in Jailer 2, the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster. Nayanthara is preparing for Mookuthi Amman 2, which is set to release on November 6, 2026. That timing makes the Dharman reunion land just as both stars are active in the conversation.
