Radhika Apte Wants 12-Hour Days, Not Violent Movies
Radhika Apte is 'vehemently against' violent mass action films. She also wants 12-hour workdays as Akka premieres October 30 on Netflix.

A clear no to violent action
Radhika Apte has spent nearly two decades moving across genres, but there is one screen trend she will not follow. While promoting her Netflix series Akka, the actor told PTI she is “vehemently against” the wave of violent mass action films that now drives a large part of theatrical business.
“What is working right now is violence, and I’m vehemently against it. So, it’s a tricky situation,” she said.
She does not mince words about the genre. “I don’t watch those films; I find them absurd,” Radhika added, questioning how audiences can eat popcorn while 50 men or women are being beaten up on screen. She described the increasingly creative injuries: a skull broken on a sink one time, then on another slab the next. For her, it is not something she can compute, so she would rather not be part of it.
That position is especially striking because she is promoting a gangster drama, not a light family title. It suggests her objection is not to conflict or dark stories, but to violence as spectacle.
Motherhood changed the practical asks
The 41-year-old, who welcomed her daughter in 2024, said her priorities are different now and include reasonable working hours. “All I ask for is 12 hours of workday and not a 16-hour workday or like some time off, and it’s not always possible,” she told PTI.
Radhika added that being with her daughter matters more than any single project. “My work is not my life. It has never been my life; it’s part of my life,” she explained.
What to know about Akka
Her next title is a series built around a gangster rivalry, set in the 1980s. Here is the essential detail:
- Title: Akka
- Leads: Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh
- Supporting cast: Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar
- Premiere date: October 30 on Netflix
- Backing: Netflix and YRF Entertainment collaboration
Why her stand hits a wider debate
Radhika’s comments land at a moment when high-octane action franchises are among Bollywood’s most bankable bets. Her refusal to chase that lane, even while leading a gangster drama, is a reminder that a star can set clear personal limits. For fans, it points toward a career where violence is not the selling point, and where sustainable workdays matter as much as box office.
