Premada Oorali to Enter Rs 100 Crore Club on Day 28

The Kannada rom-com added Rs 4.75 crore on day 27, taking its cume to Rs 98 crore and all but sealing a place in the Rs 100 crore club.

Premada Oorali Set to Hit Rs 100 Crore Club

Kannada cinema’s quiet rom-com is about to do something big. Premada Oorali collected Rs 4.75 crore on its fourth Wednesday, a 10 per cent jump over the day before, according to Pinkvilla’s trade tracking.

Six days into week four, the film has already banked Rs 24.50 crore. The week is expected to finish around Rs 28 crore, which would count as a “phenomenal hold” for a film on its 27th day. Fourth-week numbers this steady are rare in Indian cinemas, where most films lean heavily on their opening fortnight. A film still adding double-digit growth on a weekday in week four suggests word of mouth is doing the heavy lifting.

The 100 crore door is open

With the latest numbers, the film’s Indian theatrical cume stands at Rs 98 crore. That puts it on the cusp of the Rs 100 crore club, a milestone trade expects it to cross by the end of the day.

It is a blockbuster finish powered by what Pinkvilla describes as a “miraculous turnaround in the second week” after a quiet opening stretch.

Why the genre makes this special

Premada Oorali joins titles like Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayaate and Hanuman Ansh, which also stayed silent early and then exploded at the ticket window. But those two are devotional films.

Premada Oorali is a regular romantic comedy drama. For a non-devotional Kannada film to approach the 100 crore mark is a different signal about what audiences are willing to champion.

The story is a village-set love triangle. Naganna, a widowed farmer, wants his son Santhu to marry Rukmini, an educated outsider who does not tiptoe around tradition. The complication: Santhu’s childhood friend Vasantha has feelings she has kept to herself. Santhu is left to negotiate his father’s expectations, a rising love triangle, and a choice that tests every relationship around him.

The numbers at a glance

  • Day 27 collection: Rs 4.75 crore, up 10 per cent
  • Fourth-week cume: Rs 24.50 crore in six days
  • Projected fourth-week close: about Rs 28 crore
  • Total so far: Rs 98 crore in 27 days

What to watch next

The Rs 100 crore club is all but sealed. The more interesting question is how much further a mid-budget Kannada rom-com can stretch, and whether it pushes producers to bet bigger on similar stories.
