Sunny Deol’s Suryaa not submitted for certification: CBFC
CBFC says Sunny Deol's Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak has not been submitted for certification after IMA flags doctors' portrayal. Release is November 20.

Sunny Deol’s medical drama Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak is in an unusual position: it is being discussed by regulators before it has even reached them. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has clarified that the film has not been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification for certification.
The clarification follows a letter from the Indian Medical Association to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw. The IMA asked for an impartial review of the film’s promotional content and its portrayal of the medical profession.
What the IMA objected to
The medical body’s concern is that the promos could suggest corruption and unethical practice are common across healthcare. The letter flagged the ‘generalisation of corruption within healthcare’ and the ‘depiction of violence against medical professionals’, warning that this could damage public trust and the safety of healthcare workers.
It also highlighted scenes where doctors, nurses and other hospital staff are assaulted. The IMA’s strongest objection is to moments where such violence appears heroic or justified, because that can make attacks on medical personnel feel acceptable.
The association was clear that it does not support corruption or professional misconduct. It said individual wrongdoing should be dealt with through legal and disciplinary channels, but the actions of a few should not be used to tarnish the many honest doctors.
Where the film stands
Because the film has not been submitted, no certification review has started. That makes the IMA’s intervention different from a challenge to a censor decision: the complaint is aimed at promotional material and the story’s apparent framing, not at a certificate that has already been granted.
- Certification: CBFC says Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak has not been submitted.
- IMA request: An impartial review and corrective measures from the makers.
- Possible action: The IMA says a ban or other step could follow if justified under law.
- Release date: November 20 remains on the calendar.
The IMA also wants the government to look at whether the film’s content generalises alleged misconduct and shows violence against healthcare workers in a harmful light.
Why fans should watch this space
For the audience, this is not just regulatory back-and-forth. The IMA’s letter links a Bollywood film’s promotional choices to a real issue: the safety of doctors and hospital staff. That gives the controversy a social weight that routine censor board stories do not have.
The teaser begins with a personal loss and pulls Suryaa into a larger chain of events connected to the medical system. Sunny Deol leads a cast that includes Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Tanushree Chakraborty, Manish Wadhwa, Tinu Anand and others.
With the scheduled release on November 20, there is still time for the makers to respond, submit the film for certification, or adjust how the film is being promoted. The next update that matters is simple: whether the film reaches the CBFC at all.
