Ranabaali Grosses Rs 32 Crore in 5 Days, Tracking Below Hopes

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s period action drama Ranabaali got a Dussehra bump on Tuesday, but the larger story is still about how far it has to climb.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film added Rs 7.25 crore on Day 5, according to trade estimates collated by Pinkvilla. That is a 25 per cent spike over the previous day, thanks to the holiday. The lift pushed its five-day India gross to Rs 32 crore.

A holiday bump, not a turnaround

Holidays usually help action films because more families and students can get to theatres. The real question is whether the gain sticks after the holiday. Trade watchers are cautious here: Pinkvilla says the film “couldn’t strike the right chords with the audience,” and average reviews have kept it from building momentum.

At the current pace, Ranabaali is heading for a first week of around Rs 40 crore. The full theatrical run is projected to close under Rs 50-60 crore.

  • Day 5: Rs 7.25 crore, up 25 per cent from Monday
  • Five-day India gross: Rs 32 crore
  • First-week projection: around Rs 40 crore
  • Full-run projection: under Rs 50-60 crore

What that range would mean

For an action drama carrying a higher production cost, a sub-Rs 60 crore finish leaves little room for comfort. A film recovers on the strength of its long tail after the opening, not just the first five days. When the full-run number is already being capped below its likely recovery zone, the weekday trend becomes critical.

Even with Dussehra’s 25 per cent lift, Ranabaali has not shown the kind of surge that changes momentum. It will now depend heavily on the second weekend. Without a strong reversal there, as Pinkvilla warns, the film’s box-office fate is likely sealed.

The next test for Vijay and Rashmika

Set against the Great Madras Famine of 1876-1878, Ranabaali is an alternate-history action drama about a warrior who rises from the oppressed to face a ruthless commissioner. It is a big-canvas story, but the collections so far suggest the audience is not responding strongly enough.

For Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, the pressure now shifts to the coming days. The Dussehra lift has kept the total moving, but trade will be watching whether the second-weekend crowd returns.
