Nayanthara returns as goddess in Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer

The Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer teases Nayanthara in dual roles and Regina Cassandra as the antagonist ahead of the Diwali release.

Nayanthara returns as goddess in Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer

Nayanthara is back as a divine force. The trailer for Mookuthi Amman 2 has arrived, setting up a Diwali theatrical release on November 6, 2026, and a far bigger mythological canvas than the 2020 original.

A battle that stretches across time

The two-minute-27-second preview opens in a period setting, where two powerful forces are about to collide. It then jumps to the present day, where a similar unrest is unfolding. The past and the present appear to be connected, and a frightened police constable becomes the unlikely centre of the coming battle.

As the trailer unfolds, the constable realises her personal story is tied to something far greater. That framing gives the sequel a mythic scale while keeping a very human character at its heart. The team is billing the preview as a look at the world of Mahasakthi, the film’s larger mythology.

Two Nayantharas, one antagonist

From the trailer, Nayanthara appears to be playing twin roles: the goddess and a modern-day avatar, each with a different personality. Regina Cassandra steps in as the main antagonist, and the preview ends on a cliffhanger that hints at three more divine entities joining the battle.

The film is directed by Sundar C and is positioned as a standalone sequel, which means new viewers can walk in without having seen the first film.

Who joins the cast

The ensemble around Nayanthara and Regina Cassandra includes:

  • Duniya Vijay
  • Urvashi
  • Yogi Babu
  • Maina Nandhini
  • Garuda Ram
  • Abhinaya
  • Shruthy S
  • Singampuli

From OTT to the big screen

The original Mookuthi Amman went straight to OTT in 2020, directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan, and is available to stream on JioHotstar. The sequel flips that model: it is built as a theatrical event for the festive Diwali window, one of the most important release periods for Indian cinema.

Nayanthara was last seen in the romantic comedy Hi opposite Kavin, which earned positive reviews. She is next expected to share screen space with Salman Khan in Monster, directed by Vamshi Paidipally.
