Ravi Kishan's Lord Ram debut at Delhi Ramleela goes viral

This Dussehra, actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan took on a role his fans had never seen him play: Lord Ram. His debut at Delhi’s Ayodhya Ki Ramleela has set social media alight, with clips of the actor arriving on a grand chariot and taking the stage now circulating widely.

For a star who has played everything from Bhojpuri leads to a gritty politician in Mirzapur: The Movie, the festive turn is a sharp and deliberate change. It also puts him in front of a different audience — one that is gathering for Ramleela during one of India’s biggest festivals.

A first-time avatar, decades in the making

Kishan may be new to Lord Ram on stage, but he is no stranger to Ramleela. Before the performance, he told the media that he had earlier played Parshuram, Kevat and Mata Sita as a child. That detail has added to the online buzz, making the debut feel like a full-circle moment rather than a one-off appearance.

The photographs and clips show him in stage costume, and social media users have been sharing the moment alongside messages about the festival. He said he accepted the role with his young fans in mind. In a media interaction, he shared, “I urge the youth to read about Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva.” The actor added that spirituality can be a support during depression or difficult phases, and reminded listeners that he comes from a humble background and now serves as the MP from Gorakhpur.

What he asked fans to do

  • Read about Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva
  • Give meditation at least half an hour every day
  • Turn to Sanatan traditions and culture for strength

The advice is personal as much as festive. Kishan has long balanced cinema with a public political life, and his Lord Ram turn brings that identity onto a religious stage in front of a live audience. The videos going viral suggest the combination is resonating.

The wider festive stage

Kishan is not the only screen face stepping into a sacred role this season. Television actor and Bigg Boss 19 winner Gaurav Khanna played Lord Ram at Janakpuri Mahotsava 2026, while Shilpa Shinde appeared as Sita at a Delhi Ramlila. Together, these appearances show how film and television stars are becoming the faces of traditional festive storytelling.

Kishan was last seen in Mirzapur: The Movie, directed by Gurmeet Singh and co-starring Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu and Jitendra Kumar, among others. The film crossed Rs 300 crore worldwide, a reminder of the audience he carries with him into a very different kind of performance.

Why the moment matters

Ramleela draws enormous crowds every year, but a known face such as Kishan changes its texture. It turns a traditional staging into appointment viewing for fans who follow him from cinema and politics. His message also lands differently because he is not just performing; he is using the platform to speak about mental health through a spiritual lens, a subject his young audience is increasingly open about.
