Jailer 2 Rakes In Rs 224 Cr India In Extended First Weekend

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 posts an estimated Rs 224 crore India gross over its extended first weekend, with Sunday beating opening day in Tamil Nadu.

Jailer 2: Rs 224 Cr India In Extended First Weekend

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has turned a soft start into one of the strongest opening weekends in Kollywood history. The sequel’s four-day extended frame wrapped with an estimated Rs 224 crore gross in India, according to trade figures reported by Pinkvilla, placing it among the top openings ever for a Tamil film.

A Sunday that changed the conversation

The most telling number is not the final weekend total, it’s what happened on Sunday. The film collected around Rs 62 crore across India on day four, roughly 20 per cent up from Saturday. In Tamil Nadu, Sunday brought in about Rs 23 crore — higher than its Thursday opening day. For a big South Indian release, that kind of upward move is rare: it usually points to strong word of mouth rather than a front-loaded fan rush.

Where the weekend stacks up

The Rs 224 crore India gross makes Jailer 2 the third-highest four-day weekend for a Kollywood film, practically tied with Coolie at Rs 224.25 crore. Tamil Nadu has contributed nearly Rs 80 crore, with Karnataka, Kerala and the Telugu states holding well through the weekend. The Hindi dubbed version is quietly becoming its own story.

  • India weekend: Rs 224 crore approx (extended four days)
  • Sunday India: Rs 62 crore approx, up about 20% from Saturday
  • Tamil Nadu Sunday: Rs 23 crore approx, higher than opening day
  • Hindi dubbed version: Rs 15 crore plus nett from a Rs 3 crore opening day

Why this matters for the film’s run

Opening-day numbers often dominate the headline, but longevity is what separates a big hit from a truly memorable one. If Jailer 2 can hold momentum through the week, the trade suggests it should log two more Rs 20 crore days in Tamil Nadu and put the territory on course for a Rs 200 crore final. That would be a decisive result for a sequel that arrived with enormous expectations after the first Jailer.

The Hindi dubbed version is also overperforming. Pinkvilla notes that its Rs 15 crore nett haul could have been closer to Rs 25 crore had the film released in national chains. For fans, the weekend trend points to repeat viewing and family audiences — exactly the mix a big star sequel needs to run beyond the opening rush.

Box office watchers often read the first Sunday as a credibility test. Jailer 2 passed it in a way few South Indian biggies do: its Tamil Nadu Sunday was bigger than day one. The India total of Rs 224 crore is a gross figure, while the Hindi dubbed version’s Rs 15 crore plus is reported as a nett number, so the two shouldn’t be added directly. Both, though, point the same way — satisfaction is turning into footfall.
