Jailer 2 Hindi Shows Jump to 3,690 as Cinemas Swap Out Rivals

Rajinikanth's blockbuster hits a North India first with midnight Tamil shows, while its Hindi version expands to 3,690 shows despite skipping national chains.

Jailer 2 Hindi Shows Hit 3,690 as Rivals Lose Screens

In a year when most Pan-India titles have struggled, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is doing the opposite: it is taking screens away from other films instead of losing them.

A midnight milestone for the Tamil cut

MovieMax scheduled post-midnight screenings of the Tamil original at two locations — MovieMax Huma in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, and MovieMax Gold in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. Exhibition sources told Bollywood Hungama that this makes Jailer 2 the first South film to land midnight shows in North India in its original language after release.

Midnight shows are usually reserved for the weekend, but MovieMax Gold has added a 1:45 am screening on Monday, October 19, a sign of just how strongly the film is holding.

The Hindi version is building without the big chains

The Hindi dubbed version, Rajini: The Jailer 2, has a bigger constraint: it is not playing at national multiplex chains such as PVR INOX, Cinepolis and Miraj because of its four-week OTT window. National chains generally want an eight-week gap between theatrical and streaming release.

Despite that, the collections have kept climbing. The Hindi version earned Rs. 2.56 crore on Thursday, October 15, Rs. 2.41 crore on Friday, and then jumped to Rs. 3.63 crore on Saturday. Sunday’s number is expected to approach Rs. 4 crore.

That momentum is also visible in the screening count:

  • Thursday: 1,730 Hindi shows
  • Friday: 3,266 Hindi shows
  • Saturday: 3,690 Hindi shows

Cinemas are now redrawing their schedules

A trade source said the film began with limited showcasing because it had to share screens with Prahaar, Nayyi Navelli and the holdover Drishyam The Conclusion. With Nayyi Navelli underperforming and Prahaar drawing mainly elite multiplex audiences, exhibitors are shifting capacity to Rajinikanth’s film.

Mumbai’s Citylight cinema has dropped Nayyi Navelli, the Marathi release Sohla and even Drishyam The Conclusion from Monday, October 19, keeping two shows each of Prahaar and Rajini: The Jailer 2. At Maratha Mandir, the Hindi version gets three shows a day, while Kasturba in Malad has scheduled three Hindi shows alongside one Tamil show.

Diwali, Dussehra and a Coolie-sized target

Trade sources believe the film can now hold a theatrical run until Diwali. The benchmark is Rajinikanth’s previous release, Coolie (2025), which collected Rs. 34 crore in its Hindi lifetime with national chain support. Jailer 2 would have to cross that without any national multiplex backing.

An industry insider added that Monday, October 19, will be almost like a holiday and Dussehra follows on Tuesday, October 20. Dubbed action films have a strong traditional audience in Gujarat, but that territory is expected to fully open up only from October 20 or 21, once Navratri celebrations wind down.
