Neha Dhupia Regrets Turning Down Chak De India & Kargil Series

Neha Dhupia says she still regrets turning down Chak De India and Operation Safed Sagar, calling them the sports and military stories she wanted to do.

The Two Roles Neha Dhupia Still Regrets Turning Down

Neha Dhupia is opening up about a career sliding-doors moment. On her YouTube chat show Double Date, the actor admitted that two opportunities she turned down still stay with her: Chak De India and Operation Safed Sagar.

The reveal came during a board game session on the show, where she was candid about the roles that got away. “I always wanted to do a good sports film, a good military film,” she said on Double Date. She described both as big opportunities she had missed.

The two projects she let go

For Bollywood fans, the “what if” is immediate:

  • Chak De India (2007): Yash Raj Films’ sports drama with Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan, a former hockey captain who coaches the women’s national team. It remains one of Hindi cinema’s most loved sports films.
  • Operation Safed Sagar (2026): A six-episode Netflix series inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role in the 1999 Kargil War. It follows the Golden Arrows squadron on combat missions, with Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Dia Mirza and Adil Hussain in the cast.

The conversation did not detail which part she was offered in either project, only that both sat in genres she had long wanted to explore. The regret, she suggested, was about missing the worlds as much as the parts.

Sports and military stories have become prestige spaces for actors in recent years. Chak De India proved the emotional reach of a well-made sports drama, while Operation Safed Sagar arrives as part of a streaming wave of military and patriotic storytelling. That makes Dhupia’s regret easy for fans to understand: these were not just parts, but possible career-defining turns.

Why the regret matters

The admission is a reminder of how Bollywood careers are built on the choices audiences never see. Dhupia made her debut in Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003) and went on to films such as Julie, Kya Kool Hai Hum, Singh Is Kinng and Tumhari Sulu. She has also moved between film, television and digital work.

In May 2026 she launched Double Date with her husband, Angad Bedi, using the show to get stars and celebrity couples talking in a more relaxed setting. She was also recently seen in Don’t Be Shy, produced by Alia Bhatt.

By naming these two noes now, Dhupia gives her audience a small window into how actors weigh scripts, genres and timing — and why some decisions only become clear in hindsight.
