Salman Khan on Dating Silence, Aamir’s Third Marriage
On Koffee with Karan 9, Salman Khan explains his dating-life silence, Salim Khan's advice, and his reaction to Aamir Khan's third wedding.

Salman Khan has spent decades swatting away questions about his love life. On the opening episode of Koffee with Karan season 9, he finally explained the thinking behind the silence — and it started when he was a teenager.
The confession arrived in the first episode of the new season, a sit-down that has long been Bollywood’s most reliable stage for romance talk. Salman rarely takes the bait; this time he explained why.
Aamir’s third wedding gets a warm nod
Karan Johar brought back an old joke between Salman and Aamir Khan: Aamir once said he would tie Salman up to get him married, while Salman joked he would tie Aamir up so he could not marry again. That joke landed differently this season because Aamir recently married Gauri Spratt for the third time. Salman said he is happy for his friend.
Why he never names the person
When Karan brought up his old evasive answer about relationships, Salman laughed and clarified that the line was simply his way of refusing to discuss romance. He explained that Karan keeps saying “you are dating so-and-so,” but nobody knows if that person is the one for life. As he put it:
“And then that person goes ahead and gets married to somebody else.”
He added that he has thought this way since he was 15 or 16. For most of his career, that has been the rule.
Salim Khan’s house rule
Salman credited his father, Salim Khan, with the original advice: private matters should stay private, and “bedroom talk” had no place in the living room. He also pushed back against any sympathy narrative, saying nobody stopped him from being with someone and he cannot blame anyone else. He wants children, he said, at some point in time.
The relationship timeline fans already know
His private approach has not stopped public fascination. The relationship history includes:
- Aishwarya Rai: met on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, dated for a few years before their 2002 split.
- Sangeeta Bijlani: together almost a decade and had planned to marry before calling it off.
- Katrina Kaif: a close on- and off-screen bond that was never publicly confirmed.
- Iulia Vantur: currently rumoured, often spotted with him and recently lent her voice to a song in Sikandar.
What it tells fans
For viewers, the season opener shows Salman treating privacy as a boundary rather than a dodge. The star is not saying he has given up on a partner or a family; he is saying he will not perform romance for an audience until it is real. It also gives fans a cleaner lens for years of link-up stories. Instead of asking who Salman is dating, the better question may be what he will say out loud — and the answer has been the same since he was a teenager: almost nothing until there is something certain to share.
