Taran Adarsh Says Weak Writing Sank Toxic

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says weak writing, not Yash, is why Toxic did not connect; he praises the double role, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and the visuals.

Taran Adarsh: Weak Writing Is Why Toxic Failed

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has given a straightforward verdict on Toxic: the film’s problem started on the page, not on the screen. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, he praised Yash’s performance and the film’s polish but pointed to the screenplay as the core weakness.

A promising idea that lost its way

Asked why the film did not connect, Adarsh was direct: the main reason, he said, was “weak writing.” He explained that a concept can look interesting on paper and still feel unconvincing by the time it is staged for a theatre audience.

His own reaction was just as plain: he did not like Toxic, and he believes the writing is why it missed.

Star power cannot fix weak material

Adarsh carefully separated the actor from the outcome. He said Yash did a very good job, handled a double role, and is “a very confident and fine actor.” But he argued that even a good idea cannot rescue weak written material.

He also credited what worked around that script. Technically, he called the film brilliant, with spectacular visuals. He praised Kiara Advani and Nayanthara, and said Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth could perhaps have had better-developed roles.

When a film misses, the noise follows

Adarsh also spoke about the wider fallout. When a film does not work, he said, all the effort behind it gets diluted to some extent. Then comes the negativity that people see, hear, read and consume on social media. He does not think there should be so much of it, but you cannot control it today.

For the audience, Adarsh’s read is a useful filter: a film can look stunning in a trailer and still sag if the written material cannot carry the story. The takeaway is to judge the script’s theatrical translation, not just the star or the scale.

  • The praise: Yash’s double role, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and the visual polish.
  • The problem: Weak writing that could not turn an interesting concept into a convincing theatrical experience.
  • The warning: Online negativity grows when a film misses, and no one can fully control it.
