Tanishaa Mukerji Urges Paparazzi Not to Provoke Jaya Bachchan

As Mumbai prepares for Durga Puja, Tanishaa Mukerji has made one request to the photographers who will gather around the Mukerji family’s pandal: keep it respectful, and leave Jaya Bachchan in peace.

The actor spoke at a press conference in Mumbai on Friday ahead of the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja at SNDT Ground in Juhu. With footfall expected to rise, she asked both the media and the public to be careful with one another.

A public word about ‘Jaya aunty’

Tanishaa kept the tone warm but direct. She asked the crowd not to push, saying people should not “forget that there is humanity,” then turned to the photographers with a more pointed message.

“Don’t trouble our Jaya aunty this time,” she said, adding that some photographers deliberately provoke Jaya Bachchan and asking them not to do it during the family’s puja.

A familiar friction point

Jaya Bachchan has been open about her discomfort with the paparazzi for a long time. In a 2025 conversation with Mojo Story, she described herself as a “product of the media” because her father was a journalist. But she drew a clear line: her relationship with the media is fantastic, while her relationship with the paparazzi is “zero.”

That background gives Tanishaa’s words extra weight. She was not asking for a media blackout; she was asking photographers to stop turning a religious visit into a confrontation.

The next chapter of a family tradition

The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja has long been a highlight of Mumbai’s festive calendar, drawing stars such as Rani Mukerji, Kajol and Ayan Mukerji. Jaya Bachchan regularly visits the pandal run by the Mukerji family.

The celebration was earlier organised by Ayan Mukerji’s father, Deb Mukerji. Following his death in 2025, the next generation of the family has taken over the festivities. That makes this year’s celebration feel like both a tribute and a fresh start.

What this means for fans

For anyone planning to visit the pandal, the guidance is simple:

  • Avoid pushing near the entrance and the idol, especially as crowds grow.
  • Give celebrities space; a photo is not worth making someone uncomfortable.
  • Be aware that senior visitors and families will be part of the crowd.

The puja is, at heart, a community gathering. Tanishaa’s message is a reminder that the stars fans love are there to pray, not to perform on demand.
