Abhishek Bachchan on the Shah Rukh Khan Advice He Still Follows

Abhishek Bachchan looks back at Shah Rukh Khan's advice before King releases, and what the superstar's support has meant in his career.

The Shah Rukh Khan advice Abhishek Bachchan never forgot

Long before Abhishek Bachchan faced a camera, he had a front-row seat to how Shah Rukh Khan thought about films. With King set for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026, Abhishek is revisiting one conversation that has shaped how he works.

A question that became a career compass

In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Abhishek walked back to his younger days, when Sundays were built around cricket at Aditya Chopra’s house. Uday Chopra, Hrithik Roshan and Sikandar Kher were part of the group, and Shah Rukh was around often enough to become, as Abhishek put it, an “elder brother”.

Before his acting debut, Abhishek asked Shah Rukh a direct question: “Which is your favourite film?” The answer was not a title anyone expected.

“My favourite film is the film I am doing right now.”

As Abhishek remembers it, Shah Rukh’s reasoning was simple. If the movie in front of you is not your favourite, why are you doing it? What worked in the past belongs to the past. The only film that deserves your full attention is the one you are shooting today. Right now, for Shah Rukh, that means King.

The support behind the scenes

The relationship has not been limited to advice. Abhishek said Shah Rukh has “literally taken personal responsibility” for his career several times, including in King. That indicates the superstar has backed him in concrete ways, not just through encouragement.

For fans, the detail adds warmth to King. The film is not simply another action thriller; it is also the latest sign of trust between two actors who have known each other since Abhishek’s pre-debut years.

What to know about King

Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is produced by Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Siddharth and Mamta Anand’s Marflix Pictures. The cast is built for event viewing:

  • Suhana Khan makes her theatrical debut as a young protégé trained by Shah Rukh’s veteran assassin.
  • Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhay Verma, Jaideep Ahlawat and Arshad Warsi also feature.
  • Reports suggest a possible dance number with Kareena Kapoor Khan, though this remains unconfirmed by the makers.

The film is scheduled to open worldwide on December 24, 2026.

Why the advice still works

The rule Abhishek carries is both simple and demanding: treat the project you are working on now as your favourite. It is a guard against nostalgia and comparison, two habits that can quietly drain a creative team. Past success can be celebrated, but it cannot carry the next film over the line.

Abhishek has been applying that discipline away from King too. He was most recently seen in Kaalidhar Laapata on ZEE5, the Hindi remake of Madhumita’s Tamil film KD A Karuppu Durai.

When King arrives this December, the focus will shift to the film itself. The question Shah Rukh posed years ago is the one audiences will answer next.
