Shriya Saran: 8 months from birth to Drishyam 2 set

Shriya Saran has played Nandini Salgaonkar across the Drishyam franchise—the wife who holds the family steady while Vijay builds an increasingly delicate cover story. As Drishyam 3 completes the Hindi trilogy, she has looked back at the chapter that demanded the most from her off screen: returning for Drishyam 2 just eight months after giving birth.

The call came at a fragile moment

In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shriya said she became pregnant in Barcelona during the COVID-19 pandemic, far from her family and with no reliable help. “During COVID, I got pregnant in Barcelona all by myself,” she said, recalling months without her mother and managing early motherhood alone.

Then Panorama Studios called about a possible sequel. The team asked how she was, said they were thinking of making Part 2, and checked whether she was pregnant again. Shriya remembered them asking, “Aapki family planning ka kya status hai?” She found herself looking at her child as the production plans began to move.

Eight months to become Nandini again

Shriya said the timeline was not generous. “I had literally eight months from the time of my child’s birth to the shoot to lose the weight and get everything together,” she said. That countdown became a daily juggle.

  • Breastfeeding and pumping around her training schedule
  • Gym sessions, long walks and runs to regain fitness
  • Her husband handling childcare while she exercised
  • Coming home to cook through the COVID period

Why the role now feels personal

Shriya stopped short of saying she has Nandini’s strength, but she sees the resemblance. She said she often doubts whether she can manage a difficult situation until she is already through it—and that is where the character and the actor meet.

For fans, that detail changes the texture of the second film. Nandini’s guardedness reads less like performance and more like the memory of a new mother who trained between feeds. With Drishyam 3 now in cinemas after its October 2, 2026 release, the eight-month return adds a quieter layer to the work audiences have watched across three films.
