Rakul Preet Singh Says IT Search Not About Her, Denies Remittance

Rakul Preet Singh says the recent Income Tax search was not about her and denies any illegal foreign remittance, benami property or expensive gifts.

Rakul Preet Singh: IT Search Not About Me, Denies Remittance

Rakul Preet Singh has publicly answered the recent Income Tax searches that made headlines around her, saying the search did not pertain to her and denying any role in illegal foreign remittance.

What her Instagram statement says

In an official note shared on Instagram, the actor said it was “heartbreaking” to see self-styled online reporters and some mainstream journalists sensationalise the story without checking facts. She then laid out her position in direct language.

“The search was not pertaining to me,” she wrote. She added that she comes from an Armed Forces background, had no godfather in the industry, and has been paying her due taxes since the age of 20.

On the specific allegations, Rakul denied any illegal foreign remittance, whether in a personal capacity or on behalf of any production house. She also said she does not hold any benami property anywhere in India or abroad. Benami property is property held in one person’s name while someone else provides the funds, often to conceal the real owner.

She also rejected talk of expensive gifts and properties, saying that no one has ever gifted her property and that she does not accept such gifts as a principle.

Her response can be broken into three clear denials:

  • No illegal foreign remittance, personally or for a production house
  • No benami property anywhere in the country or abroad
  • No expensive gifts or gifted property ever accepted

Why this matters for fans and the industry

Tax-related headlines move quickly in entertainment, especially when they involve a known actor. A public figure facing unverified reports can either let speculation grow or answer on record. Rakul chose the on-record route, and she did it with a point-by-point rebuttal rather than a broad denial.

That matters because tax compliance and a clean public record sit at the centre of any long-term film career. Her statement also uses personal credibility as a shield: Armed Forces roots, no industry godfather, and a tax-paying history she says stretches back to age 20.

For an actor of Rakul’s generation, legal scrutiny is not a private matter. Endorsement, casting and audience goodwill all sit behind a public reputation, which makes a clear statement an essential piece of damage control.

What to watch next

The report does not say whom the searches actually involved, beyond Rakul’s statement that they were not about her. There is no separate agency comment in the piece, so her denial is currently the latest on-record word.

Until an official agency speaks further, the useful distinction for fans is simple: social media speculation is not the same as a finding, and Rakul has now put her side on record.
