Bhansali and Alia May Revive Inshallah After Love And War
Bhansali and Alia Bhatt are reportedly in talks to revive their shelved 2019 film Inshallah, with a reworked script and no male lead locked yet.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah is back in the conversation. First announced in 2019 with Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan, the film was shelved before cameras rolled. Now, a new report suggests Bhansali and Alia are planning to revive it once their current collaboration, Love And War, is out.
For fans who kept the 2019 announcement on their watchlist, the news is less about nostalgia than proof that a strong director-actor equation can bring a stalled idea back to life.
What happened to the original Inshallah
The 2019 version had the ingredients of a major event: Bhansali directing, with Alia and Salman as the leads. But the project stalled when Salman reportedly opted out shortly before production was due to begin, and the film was eventually shelved.
Bhansali then moved to Gangubai Kathiawadi with Alia. That move paid off: the film earned critical recognition and Alia won the National Award for Best Actress. The two are now finishing Love And War, which also features Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
The revival is a rework, not a rerun
According to a report in Mid-day, Bhansali and Alia may reunite for Inshallah after Love And War releases. The project is not being treated as a straight continuation of the 2019 version. The basic storyline is expected to stay, but the material is reportedly being reworked so the makers can bring a fresh approach.
Casting appears to be wide open. A source quoted in the report said, “No casting gets locked on a Bhansali film without the script being finalised.” The source added that Salman is busy with Raj-DK’s film, while Shah Rukh Khan has not decided his next after King. It is also possible the story will lean toward a younger actor.
The casting question
That leaves three realistic directions for the male lead:
- Salman Khan — the original co-lead, but currently committed elsewhere.
- Shah Rukh Khan — linked to the project earlier this year, though he has not locked his next film.
- A younger actor — the reworked script could move the story in a different age bracket.
For now, Bhansali’s script-first process means no decision is likely until the new draft is ready.
Why the timing is right
Bhansali and Alia have now built a track record together. Gangubai Kathiawadi showed they can turn a long-gestating project into an award-winning release. Love And War is the next test of that rhythm. Reviving Inshallah after that film would let them carry the momentum into another high-profile title.
The report suggests the new version will be rethought rather than rushed, and the script will determine the casting.
What comes next
Before any Inshallah announcement, audiences will see Bhansali and Alia’s current film. The makers recently unveiled character posters for Love And War, and the film is now slated to arrive in theatres on January 21, 2026. If the reworked Inshallah moves forward, it would mark the third major collaboration between Bhansali and Alia after Gangubai Kathiawadi and Love And War.
