Ram Lakhan, widely regarded as Ghai’s greatest work to date, has become a cultural touchstone throughout the years and it is still appreciated because of its cast, directing, and music. Kapoor’s portrayal of Lakhan was well-received, and it is considered one among his best parts; the song “My Name Is Lakhan,” which was recorded on himself, has since become his signature and most famous song.

The film was nominated for numerous awards there at the 35th Filmfare Awards, with Raakhee winning the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award as well as Kher and Kaushik sharing the Filmfare Best Comedian Award.

The plot of the movie-

Sharda is blissfully married to Thakur Pratap Singh and has two young kids, Ram and Lakhan, in a wealthy family. After serving time in prison for syphoning the family fortune, Pratap’s father Veer offers mercy to his nephews Bhishambar and Bhanu. Veer is duped into signing a will that deprives Pratap, Sharda, Ram, and Lakhan of their inheritance as well as their right to reside on the manor grounds.

Veer is assassinated by a vehicle bomb. After learning of their grand plot, Pratap refuses to bend down to savage Bhishambar and is severely beaten, stabbed viciously, and placed on a nearby railway track to be torn to pieces by the next passing train, leaving Sharda, Ram, as well as Lakhan behind. Sharda swears to revenge Pratap’s death and intends to do it by praying for justice at the temple every day. She speaks about when her boys grow up to destroy Pratap’s assailants, and how she will only spread Pratap’s ashes and only then.
