Spyder is indeed a 2017 Indian action thriller film produced by N. V. Prasad and written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Mahesh Babu, Rakul Preet Singh, and S. J. Surya appear in the movie, which was shot concurrently in Telugu and Tamil. The Tamil dialogues were written by Murugadoss, whereas the Telugu dialogues were written by Paruchuri Brothers. Harris Jayaraj composed the soundtrack, whereas Santosh Sivan handled the photography and A. Sreekar Prasad edited the movie. After Shiva, an Intelligence Bureau official, discovers that a psychopath is on the loose, he sets out to defend the people of Hyderabad.
After an unsuccessful effort to release a simultaneous Tamil version of Brahmotsavam, Mahesh Babu makes his Tamil debut with this movie (2016). The film was originally rumoured to also be entitled Abhimanyudu and Sambhavami before being officially titled Spyder on March 18, 2017. The movie’s production started in July 2016, followed by that of the start of main filming. This movie was primarily shot in Chennai, with several scenes shot mostly around Hyderabad and Vizag, whereas the songs were shot in other countries, eventually ending up in August 2017.
On September 27, 2017, Spyder was released theatrically in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam throughout the globe. In the Gulf nations, it was published in a dubbed Arabic version. On September 26, it also was distributed in over 800 theatres across the United States. This movie got mixed reviews, with acclaim for S. J. Surya as well as Mahesh Babu’s performances, particularly the latter, whereas critics lambasted the storyline, writing, and director. Although making a total of 150 crore against with a budget of 120 crores, the movie was a box-office disaster due to exorbitant production expenses.
Harris Jayaraj composed the movie’s music, while Madhan Karky wrote the Tamil version’s lyrics. Originally, Karky was supposed to write the songs for the Telugu-dubbed version, making his Telugu debut; nevertheless, Ramajogayya Sastry wrote the Telugu tracks. Brijesh Shandilya recorded one song for the film in late June 2017, which is described as “ä desi romantic number.” The Tamil soundtrack, but at the other hand, only has five songs.
The Telugu edition has a sixth track named as “Akkada Vunnavadu”. The film’s lead single “Boom Boom” is taken from the soundtrack album, which was released in Tamil and Telugu on July 29, 2017.
On August 25, 2017, the whole soundtrack CD was released at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. On the same day, the album was released in Telugu.
“There is a distinct Tamil taste in all of the tracks, with even remnants of Harris’ previous works plainly visible,” Indiaglitz said of the album. Spyder’s audio album draws the class audience as well as stands out as a different record in Mahesh’s career, according to 123Telugu.
Karthik Srinivasan of Milliblog stated that the album is “a predictable Harris Jayaraj package with two good-enough songs.”
Behindwoods gave the Tamil soundtrack a 2.5 out of 5 rating, saying, “Though there is no nativity for Tamil audiences, the album includes Harris’ customary western style songs with great quality.” “Except for two tracks, Harris doesn’t really enhance the enchantment quotient for SPYder,” Sharanya CR of The Times of India wrote. “Harris Jayaraj offers an intriguing album replete with the composer’s distinctive tones throughout the soundtrack,” according to Moviecrow, who gave the album a three-out-of-five rating.
“Spyder is a lightweight, bubbly soundtrack from Harris that’s big on style but not too much on content,” said Siddharth Srinivas of Sify.
