No doubt we all know the winner of the longest film franchise. If you still haven’t made the right guess then for you the right answer is Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Let’s take a closer look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise-
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
It is a shared universe and media property focused on a series of Marvel Studios superhero films. The films are based on characters that feature in Marvel Comics’ American comic novels. Television shows, short films, digital series, and books are all part of the franchise. The shared universe was created by combining similar narrative elements, locales, cast, and characters, much like the original Marvel Universe from comic books.
Iron Man (2008) was the first MCU film, and it kicked off Phase One of the franchise, which ended with The Avengers, a crossover picture (2012). Phase Two started with Iron Man 3 (2013) and ended with Ant-Man and the Wasp (2015). (2015). Captain America: Civil War (2016) was the first film in Phase Three, while Spider-Man: Far From Home was the last (2019). The “Infinity Saga” refers to the first three instalments of the franchise. The films of Phase Four begin with Black Widow (2021).
With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC in 2013, Marvel Television extended the universe to network television, before extending to streaming television on Netflix and Hulu, as well as cable television on Freeform. They also created Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot, a digital series. Starting with WandaVision in 2021 as the start of Phase Four, Marvel Studios began creating its own television series for streaming on Disney+. Marvel Comics’ tie-in comics, a series of direct-to-video short films known as Marvel One-Shots, and a viral marketing campaign for the films starring the fake news show WHIH Newsfront are all part of the MCU.
Commercially, the franchise has been a success, with mostly good feedback. Other films and television companies have been inspired to try to build shared worlds based on comic book characters. Several themed attractions, an art show, two television specials, cinema guidebooks, video games, and commercials have all been inspired by the MCU.
