Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty’s husband, may have to serve extra time in prison after being caught in a pornography-related case. After the Crime Branch stated 19 reasons to reject his bail application, the sessions court delayed a hearing on it until August 20.
The Crime Branch stated in court that Raj Kundra was refusing to cooperate and that their investigation was still ongoing. They also stated that there was still a lot of evidence to be gathered and that many more witnesses and victims were coming forward to give their stories.
Pornographic content was streamed via an app called HotShots, which was related to Kundra’s firm, it was previously discovered. Kundra was in control of the app through Kenrin Limited, a London-based company, according to the police. Pradeep Bakshi, Kundra’s brother-in-law, owns the firm and is now wanted in the case.
The Crime Branch opposed Raj Kundra’s bail request, claiming that as a powerful person, he may tamper with evidence and sway witnesses because some of them work for his firm. They further said that if he walks out on bond, he may flee the nation because he is a British citizen.
In the pornographic investigation, police have so far detained 11 persons, including Kundra. They’ve also been accused of pressuring women into working in pornographic material after promising them roles in Bollywood and other OTT platforms.
Raj Kundra had filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court against his arrest by Crime Branch officials. On August 10th, the Mumbai Sessions Court will hear his bail application. Shilpa recently broke her silence following his incarceration, releasing a lengthy statement in which she asked for seclusion from the public.
The defence counsel requested additional time to reply to the criminal branch’s arguments. The case will be heard in court on August 20.
