Singeetam Srinivasa Rao helmed as well as Ramoji Rao produced Mayuri, a 1985 Indian Telugu-language biographical dance movie. Focuses on the life of Sudha Chandran, the movie stars her as the title character whereas P. L. Narayana, Nirmalamma, Y. Vijaya, Potti Prasad, K. K. Sharma, S. R. Raju as well as Suthi Veerabhadra Rao started playing minor roles.
The film received its world premiere there at the 1985 India International Film Festival. The film was screened retrospectively, during the 2014 International Film Festival of India in Celebrating Dance in Indian cinema section. The movie won 14 Nandi Awards much more by some other Telugu film.
Mayoori was adapted into Malayalam and Tamil and afterwards recreated in Hindi as Naache Mayuri (1986).
Mayuri is based on the true tragedy of classical dancer Sudha Chandran, who lost her leg inside a tragedy in June 1981 while travelling from Trichy to Chennai. The narrative follows her as she acquires a Jaipur foot, battles her path back as just a dancer, and achieves success in life.
S. P. Balasubrahmanyam composed music, while Veturi, as well as Mankombu Gopalakrishnan, wrote the words ( Malayalam version).
The film received 14 Nandi Awards from the Andhra Pradesh government in various genres.
