Farhan Akhtar helmed Don, also titled Don: The Chase Begins Again, a 2006 Indian Bollywood action thriller movie. Ritesh Sidhwani and Akhtar’s production firm Excel Entertainment co-produced the movie. Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra lead inside the movie, which also features Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Isha Koppikar, as well as Om Puri in supporting parts. Don is a gritty remake of the 1978 major motion picture, and it depicts a look-alike sent on a secret mission to mimic Don after he has been injured in pursuit and penetrate the drug mafia’s operations.
Farhan Akhtar intended to give the old film a contemporary style and treatment in order to create a picture that he thought would be perfectly suited to present times while reproducing it from a new perspective. After purchasing the rights, the filmmaker envisioned his remake as a tribute to both the original film and its cast and crew, as well as the 1970s era in general. He co-wrote the screenplay alongside his father, Javed Akhtar, who had previously collaborated with Salim Khan on the original script. He retained the fundamental narrative but added some new elements, such as an international location and a different conclusion.
The shooting started in Mumbai until travelling to Malaysia, wherein 80 per cent of the footage was shot. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy created the soundtrack, while Javed Akhtar wrote the lyrics.
The movie was released on October 20, 2006, during the Diwali festival season, clashing alongside Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Preity Zinta’s Jaan-E-Mann. Critics largely praised Khan and Chopra’s performances, and also the action sequences, soundtrack, production design, and videography.
At the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, Don was named Best Asian Film. At the 52nd Filmfare Awards, the movie won nine nominations, namely Best Film and Best Actor for Shahrukh Khan. On December 23, 2011, a sequel, Don 2, was published.
