Cate Blanchett, an Academy Award winner, is slated to feature in and produce the drama The New Boy. The film will be directed by Warwick Thornton, a writer-director.The New boy, set in 1940s Australia, “depicts the mesmeric narrative of a 9-year-old aboriginal orphan boy who arrives in the middle of night to a distant monastery managed by a renegade nun,” according to The Hollywood Reporter (Blanchett). In this storey of spiritual struggle and survival costs, the new boy’s existence disrupts the delicately regulated environment.”
Cate Blanchett, Andrew Upton, and Georgie Pym of Dirty Films will produce alongside Kath Shelper of Scarlett Pictures, who collaborated with Thornton on his Cannes-winning feature Samson & Delilah and the documentary The Darkside.
Along with Blanchett, Deborah Mailman and Wayne Blair will star in the picture, which is expected to begin filming in Australia in October.Cate Blanchett will reprise her role as Pinocchio in the Netflix film adaption, reuniting her with director Guillermo Del Toro.
She’ll also reprise her role as Lilith in Borderlands, a Lionsgate live-action adaptation of the computer game of the same name, reuniting her with director Eli Roth.
