Before the virtual European Movie Market, the A-list projects are assembled. Justin Kurzel will helm the next sci-fi picture Morning, which will include a number of well-known celebrities. Laura Dern, who won an Oscar and a BAFTA for her role in Big Little Lies, alongside Noah Jupe will star in this new big-league picture. Benedict Cumberbatch, an Oscar candidate, BAFTA winner, and star of The Power of the Dog will also play in a supporting role and executive produce with Dern.
Morning is set inside the near future, according to The Hollywood Reporter, when civilization has developed a medication that eliminates the need for sleep.
There is finally no limit to morning brightness, life, and work, thanks to the addition of an artificial sun. Is it time for a new generation to revolt and recapture their dreams as they grow up without access to the realm of sleep?
The morning was written by Sam Steiner, a Manchester-born screenwriter whose screenplay was taken up by Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland’s SunnyMarch production company. Leah Clarke, SunnyMarch’s head of film, is producing alongside Ackland. Cumberbatch, Dern, and Lemons will serve as executive producers. Kurzel will collaborate with a number of prior colleagues for the project, including Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Adam Arkapaw and BAFTA Award-nominated costume designer Alice Babidge.
At the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, Justin Kurzel’s most recent feature film Nitram was nominated for the Palme d’Or, as well as lead actor Caleb Landry Jones received the Best Actor award. Aside from Morning, Steiner is now working on the monster movie Banquet, which will be helmed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.
