Kangana Ranaut’s legal battle with writer Ashish Kaul has taken a new turn, with the author filing a contempt petition against Ranaut in the Bombay High Court for lying to the court.
According to the newspaper, Kaul’s lawyers, Adnan Shaikh and Yogita Joshi wrote a letter to Javed Akhtar and learnt through his response that the passport application had been falsified, which is a serious felony. They went on to say that they had a responsibility to bring this to the Hon’ble High Court’s attention and that if court fraud is proven, there will undoubtedly be consequences.
Kangana Ranaut is accused of failing to disclose all of the legal proceedings filed against her in various courts. Javed Akhtar filed an intervention petition alleging that Kangana purposefully withheld information in order to obtain a favourable passport renewal decision. The Bombay High Court had earlier dismissed Akhtar’s interim appeal, in which he claimed Ranaut withheld information from the court about an impending defamation lawsuit he had filed against her. Ranaut thanked the High Court for dismissing Akhtar’s appeal on Instagram.
Kangana Ranaut was sued for copyright infringement for the film Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda by Ashish Kaul. The author has stated unequivocally that he will fight any copyright relief for the actress. Kangana Ranaut and her brother Akshat Ranaut have petitioned the Bombay High Court to have the FIR filed against them dismissed.
