Dennis Quaid is indeed an actor from the United States who has starred in a range of serious and humorous roles. Breaking Away, The Right Stuff (1983), The Big Easy (1986), Innerspace (1987), Great Balls of Fire! (1989), Dragonheart, The Parent Trap (1998), Frequency (2000), Traffic (2000), The Rookie (2002), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Vantage Point (2008), Footloose (2011), Soul Surfer (2011), The Intruder (2019), and American Underdog (2019) are just a few of his notable credits (2021). He earned the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actor for his part in Far from Heaven, among many other awards. According to The Guardian, he is one of the finest performers who has never been nominated for an Academy Award.

Quaid stepped out from the University of Houston without graduating to seek an acting career in Hollywood. He struggled to get employment at first, however gained prominence after starring in Breaking Away (1979) and receiving positive reviews for his turn as astronaut Gordon Cooper in The Right Stuff.

Quaid, who is known for his grin, has acted across both comedic as well as dramatic roles. Quaid appeared in The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia (1981), Jaws 3-D (1983), Dreamscape (1984), Enemy Mine (1985), Innerspace (1987), and The Big Easy (1988). (1987). In Great Balls of Fire!, he was praised for his depiction of Jerry Lee Lewis (1989). He also participated in Bonnie Raitt’s music video for the song “Thing Called Love” in 1989.

Quaid’s career stalled inside the early 1990s as he battled anorexia nervosa and recovered from a cocaine addiction after losing 40 pounds to play tuberculosis-affected Doc Holliday in Wyatt Earp. Nevertheless, he proceeded to receive great reviews inside a range of movies. Quaid also appeared as just a guest star in a Muppets Tonight episode from season two (1997). He played the father of both the twins inside the 1996 adventure picture Dragonheart, as well as in Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday as an aged pro football quarterback (1999). With Everything That Rises, a television movie western in which he already featured, he made his directorial debut in 1998.
